Infrastructure for Multicultural Communities Grants

This grant is part of the Government’s Modernised Multicultural Grant Program.

The Australian Government is investing up to $41.6 million to support multicultural communities with facilities to promote connection.

You can use this grant funding to construct, upgrade or extend infrastructure that demonstrates benefits to multicultural communities. This may include:

  • community hubs and centres
  • museums, libraries and art spaces
  • indoor and outdoor amenities, including food preparation areas, dining spaces, bathrooms and barbecue facilities
  • meeting and conference facilities
  • stages, auditoriums and spaces to encourage performing arts
  • spaces for sporting and physical activities.​​

 

Grant applications

You can submit only one application.

Application tips:

  • apply for only batch 1 or batch 2
  • apply for only one stream of funding
  • check how much funding you will need to contribute through co-contributions.​

Apply for only one batch. You can submit an application for batch 1 or batch 2.

  • Batch 1 is open for applications until 4:00PM AEST on 18 May 2026.
  • Batch 2 is open for applications after 4:00pm AEST on 18 May 2026 and before 4:00 pm AEDT on 12 November 2026.

Apply for only one stream of funding. You can apply for only one stream of grant funding based on the type of infrastructure project.

 

For Stream 1 – Amenity projects:

  • The minimum grant is $20,000 GST exclusive.
  • The maximum grant is $100,000 GST exclusive.
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for priority groups / projects = 2%
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for all other groups / projects = 25%

For Stream 2 – Small to medium infrastructure projects:

  • The minimum grant amount is $100,001 GST exclusive.
  • The maximum grant amount is $500,000 GST exclusive.
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for priority groups / projects = 2%
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for all other groups / projects = 25%

For Stream 3 – Larger infrastructure projects:

  • The minimum grant amount is $500,001 GST exclusive.
  • The maximum grant amount is $1.5 million GST exclusive.
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for priority groups / projects = 2%
  • Minimum co-funding contribution for all other groups / projects = 50%

 

In Kind Contributions

In-kind contributions do not count as co-contributions for the purpose of this grant opportunity.

You must be able to mention that the co-contribution is confirmed or otherwise available at the time of your application. Co-funding sources include, but are not limited to:

  • your own available cash balance
  • financial loans
  • donations
  • state, territory or local government funding sources (including grants which have been executed before your application has been submitted or are contingent on this grant being approved for the same project)
    note: co-contributions from commonwealth agencies will not be considered.
  • support from a partner organisation or consortium member.

 

Eligibility Criteria

The decision maker can choose to waive the eligibility criteria, however they must be made aware of the risks. The waiver may be used to ensure that applicants are not excluded solely on the basis of entity type, particularly if there are applicants that may otherwise be considered suitable. Clear evidence will be provided to the decision maker to enable a decision on whether eligibility criteria should be waived.

Who is eligible to apply for this grant?

To be eligible, you must be:

  • a not-for-profit organisation
  • a legal entity with the capacity to enter into a legally binding grant agreement with the Commonwealth; and
  • one of the following entity types:
    • Company
    • Cooperative
    • Incorporated Association
    • Indigenous Corporation
    • Statutory Entity.

If you are applying as a Trustee on behalf of a Trust, the Trustee must be one of the eligible entity types as listed above.

As a not-for-profit organisation, you may be asked to demonstrate your not-for-profit status through a current Australian Charities and Not for profits Commission’s (ACNC) registration or a governing document with a relevant not-for-profit clause. Applications from consortia are acceptable, as long as you have a lead applicant who is solely accountable to the Commonwealth for the delivery of grant activities and is an eligible entity as per the list above. Eligible organisations can form a consortium with ineligible organisations.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

We can only accept applications from organisations that can provide:

  • evidence that the core purpose of your organisation is to represent and promote the interests of, or provide support and deliver services and programs to, culturally and linguistically diverse communities (supported by your governing document – refer to section 7.1 in the grant guidelines)
  • all mandatory attachments (refer to section 7.1 in the grant guidelines).

To receive grant funding the project must not have commenced prior to receiving the grant. If your application relates to a particular phase or part of a larger project, then this phase or part must not have commenced.

Who is not eligible to apply for the grant?

You are not eligible to apply if you are a/an:

  • Corporate Commonwealth Entity
  • Corporate State or Territory Entity
  • Local Government
  • Non-corporate Commonwealth Entity
  • Non-corporate Commonwealth Statutory Authority
  • Non-corporate State or Territory Entity
  • Non-corporate State or Territory Statutory Authority
  • International Entity
  • Partnership
  • Person
  • Sole Trader
  • Unincorporated Association
  • For-profit organisation
  • Australian state or territory government body
  • Political party
