Overview

Northeast Health Wangaratta is seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Artist who has an active connection to the region we service to create a large-scale mural artwork on an external wall that enhances the cultural safety of the organisation. The artwork should represent all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their connection to country.

The successful submission will be painted on an outside-facing wall of our hospital and images of the mural may also be used on our website, social media channels and marketing materials.

Applicants will need to demonstrate they have the required experience and skills to design a large-scale external artwork. The successful artist will work with NHW staff to develop the final artwork design.

The expression of interest will be open from 5th of June 2026 until 19th of June 2026.

 

Our Organisation

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is a regional health service based in Wangaratta, Victoria. We are the major referral facility for people with complex health needs from Bright, Mansfield, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Yarrawonga, Euroa and Benalla. We also provide a telehealth service to these smaller facilities, allowing doctors at Northeast Health to provide medical advice via video link. Our hospital has a 24/7 Emergency Department and offers an extensive range of healthcare services, as well as our residential aged care facility, Illoura.

To improve the overall sense of cultural safety of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing health services. We are here to support them with their healthcare needs and to improve their overall healthcare journey.

 

Eligibility

The artist must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and share their active connections to the Country NHW services. All designs and concepts must be the authentic and original work of the artist submitting the design. Artists are required to submit their ABN as part of the engagement.

Key Dates

  • EOI Closes – 19/6/2026
  • Successful artist notified – 23/6/2026
  • Initial briefing – TBC with artist
  • Progress report – Fortnightly
  • Artwork complete – TBC with artist

 

How to apply

Artists are invited to submit an EOI that address the above brief via email to kim.bennetts@nhw.org.au

Applications must include:

  • A design concept that is accompanied by a written statement/story
  • Documentation of previous large scale artwork projects
  • Artist fee for their artwork (including GST)
  • Artist biography
  • Proposed timeline for completion of artwork
  • Contact details

 

Evaluation and notification process

NHW will notify all respondents in writing of the outcomes of their response to the EOI process.

 

Terms and conditions in relation to the commissioned artwork

  1. The artist will be required to enter into an agreement with NHW outlining the approved use of the artwork.
  2. The legal title to the artwork (ownership) will be with NHW.
  3. NHW will permit the artist to use photographs of the artwork for their own personal business activities which includes the following: Promotion of their artistic works and style; Use on their websites and social media as an explanation of their work but not as part of their website/logo design.
  4. The artist agrees that the artwork will not be reproduced, sold or used by any other entity.
  5. NHW will have the right in perpetuity to use and reproduce the artwork and/or a position of the artwork in its promotional activities and materials.
  6. The artist will be formally recognized as the artist of the artwork.
  7. NHW will have worldwide rights to use the artwork across all media.
  8. NHW will have the right to utilize the artwork in whole or part for reproduction purposes.
  9. No further payment or ongoing payment will be made by NHW to the artist other than the commission payment.
  10. The artist on signing of any document is accepting the Terms and Conditions of the commissioning and future use of the artwork by NHW.
  11. NHW at its discretion may cover or erase the artwork at any time.
