My creative practice is integral to my daily life. It informs the way I arrange and design my home interior landscape, with colour combinations, space, light and furniture. This extends to the surrounding garden design I have implemented. It encourages the natural world to co-exist around me. My home and garden reflect my perpetual need to create a sense of beauty and ease in my surroundings and effectively represent a 3-dimensional still life painting. I have been profoundly inspired by many artists including Margaret Olley, Giorgio Morandi, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard and Claude Monet.

I have from my earliest memory been driven to respond creatively to my surroundings. For many years I have been drawn to paint, whether it be via a still life, or to people, places, a way to communicate a narrative encountered, a musical composition or simply a way to digest emotional encounters.

I have always had a natural ability to paint en plein air and enjoy the intuitive quality of colour mixing this extends to an exploration of collage as a liberating tool combined with paint.

As I have matured as a person, I realise this powerful force that compels me to respond creatively to all that I experience is a device for self-knowledge and solace.

I am now far more cognizant of my need for extended bouts of solitude and the time and space that these demand. This is the secret to my creative practice.

I have been exhibiting artworks in Australia since I migrated here in 1985. I have successfully participated in numerous exhibitions in the northeast of Victoria in group shows and solo exhibitions.

I have received many private commissions and regularly sell my artworks.

Gerri Grady: Occupational Therapist

I was employed by the Northeast Health Community Care Centre in Wangaratta from 2011-14.

In 2014 we required 4 murals for our waiting room.

Valerie Crosse was selected for this commission.

She created 4 beautiful murals based on a view of native birds surrounded by foliage.

We are delighted with the results.

the artworks are still on display.

Gerri Grady

I have known Valerie Crosse for several years and previously purchased a small watercolour. I commissioned Valerie to paint an image of Mount Buffalo for my new home.

We are delighted with the results. We are planning a new commission in 2026.
